Finding Myself in Newton

By: Chrissy LeClair

One day, I found myself.
Hidden treasures, hidden amongst the rubble.
Community united, sharpened minds and spirits.
No judgment, open arms and loving life.

People helped change me into who I am today.
Kat said it’s okay to be me.
David encouraged me to be creative.
Teresa’s strength I fed off of.

The Art Bomb was my favourite event,
Drumming in the grove—
My youngest really showed interest.
Christmas events—
Emma won Momma an authentic native drum.

Last but not least, the Cedar Bark poets
Encouraged me to be proud and show it!
